This handmade 24k lined Japanese ceramic cup, made and purchased in Tokyo, Japan by me (it was an incredible find). The ceramic cup is sturdy yet delicate. The gold inside is a treat for your eyes and can be used in so many ways…but I see it sitting regally on a shelf to delight those willing (or drawn) to take a closer look. One of the things I admire and have so much respect for in Japan is way the artists and shopkeepers treat every object with such care. This cup was very expensive but I had to have it – and whoever buys this piece will get so much joy out it.
Japan is such a magical place. I love wandering around the streets and side alleys looking into small shops and discovering artists. The food, the fashion, the history, all of it melting together to create tomorrow. Traditional lines blur with modern interpretations. So many people, so many signs,so many shops – inspiration is everywhere you look. Watch for more posts from me on Japan and the secret or maybe not so secret spots that I find inspirational.
The dimensions are approx. 1-1/4 to 1-1/2 square with a lovely foot at the bottom. The artist signed the bottom.
